On the morning of January 20, law enforcement agencies conducted searches in the premises of the Dnipro City Council. The National Police say that searches are also being conducted in the Zaporizhzhia and Lviv Regions. They are related to the embezzlement of state funds for the removal of household waste.
This was reported by Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov in his Telegram channel.
According to the mayor, the investigative actions concern issues related to the disposal of waste at the city landfill. He noted that law enforcement officers appeared at the city hall in the morning, explaining their actions by suspicions of violations at the solid waste landfill.
Filatov also published a comment in which he expressed questions about the timing of the searches, noting that they could not have been carried out in the morning of the same day.
"This morning, the "law enforcement officers" on duty stopped by the city hall to search. Allegedly, something is not buried properly at the city landfill. […] Dear "law enforcement officers", I have only one question. Could you have come to search not this morning, but at least tomorrow?" Filatov wrote.
The National Police reported that they are conducting large-scale investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings on the possible embezzlement of state funds during the collection, transportation and disposal of solid household waste.
According to law enforcement officers, searches are taking place in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Lviv Regions. Investigators are working at the locations of solid waste landfills, in office premises, at the registration and residence addresses of the persons involved in the case, as well as in the vehicles they use.
One of the searches is being conducted in the building of the Dnipro City Council in order to seize documents that may be important for the pre-trial investigation.
