President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree appointing First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Valerii Vavryniuk to temporarily act as the Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. This is stated in Decree No. 10/2026 on the President's website on Sunday, January 4.

"First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Valerii Pavlovych Vavryniuk shall temporarily perform the duties of the Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine," the document says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 4, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that the head of the State Border Guard Service, Serhii Deineko, was appointed an advisor to the Minister of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.

On January 2, Zelenskyy said that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko would soon submit candidates to replace the head of the State Border Guard Service, Serhii Deineko.
