Cabinet approves independent members of new Energoatom supervisory board

On December 31, the Nomination Committee approved independent members of the new supervisory board of the Energoatom national nuclear power generating company.

Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this on the Government Portal, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The selection was carried out unanimously. The committee includes representatives of the Government and independent observers - the EU, EBRD, IFC and the Business Ombudsman," the report says.

It is noted that the independent members of the supervisory board will be:

- Rumina Velshi - an international expert in nuclear safety and regulatory oversight.

Over 40 years in the industry.

She headed the Canadian Nuclear Regulator, the IAEA Safety Standards Commission and the Association of International Nuclear Regulators.

- Laura Garbenchute-Bakiene - a specialist in finance, audit and risk management in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Over 25 years of experience.

Leadership roles at PwC (USA, Ukraine, Lithuania), work with audit and risks at strategic energy facilities, in particular the Ignalina NPP.

- Patrick Fragman - an engineer and international manager in the nuclear and energy industries.

Over 30 years of experience.

Former President and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Company.

- Brice Bouillon is a lawyer in energy regulation and corporate governance.

Held senior positions at EDF International and EDF Energy, was responsible for legal, compliance and regulatory functions, worked in the French Council of State and the Energy Regulatory Commission.

The selection of three state representatives to the supervisory board is also underway and will be completed in the first half of January.

In parallel, we continue to update the supervisory boards of the entire energy industry - in Naftogaz, Ukrhydroenergo, Ukrenergo, GTS Operator, Centrenergo and other companies.

In total, 12 companies are in the focus of attention, their charters and regulations are brought into line with OECD principles.

State audits of Energoatom and defense enterprises are ongoing.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of November, it was announced that a competitive selection process had begun for four positions of independent members of the supervisory board of the Energoatom national nuclear power generating company for requirements for candidates and evaluation criteria approved by the Nomination Committee.

Earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko stated that in order to restore trust in Energoatom, it is necessary to hold a competition for the supervisory board not through a shortened, but through a full and open, competitive procedure, in accordance with OECD standards, provided for all strategic Ukrainian state-owned enterprises.
