During his visit to Florida, Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Donald Trump consider providing Ukraine with long-term security guarantees for up to 50 years. The President of Ukraine said this in a conversation with journalists, revealing the details of the talks that took place on December 28.
The current documents provide for a 15-year support period with a possibility of extension. However, Zelenskyy stressed that given the duration of russian aggression, Ukraine needs strategic stability.
"I told President Trump that the war has been going on for almost 15 years, so we need much longer guarantees - for 30, 40 or even 50 years. This would be a historic decision," he said, adding that Trump promised to think about the proposal.
In general, Zelenskyy called the talks in Florida on a 20-point peace plan successful: security guarantees from the United States were agreed upon by 100%, and the Ukraine-EU-US trilateral format was almost fully agreed upon.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, during the talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump, the parties failed to reach a final decision on the Donbas.
The russian dictator vladimir putin refused to consider the possibility of a ceasefire during the possible referendum in Ukraine on the so-called "peace plan," Trump said.
