Russian dictator vladimir putin has refused to consider a ceasefire for the duration of a possible referendum in Ukraine on the so-called "peace plan". US President Donald Trump stated this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following their meeting on December 28 in Florida, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
Answering journalists' questions about whether putin is ready to agree to a temporary cessation of hostilities for the period of the referendum, Trump said that moscow would not do so.
"No, not a ceasefire. He feels that, look, you know, they're fighting and to stop, and then if they have to start again, which is a possibility. He doesn't want to be in that position. I understand that position. [...] But I think we're finding ways that we can get around that," the US president said.
At the same time, Trump said that russia is allegedly ready to "help" in rebuilding Ukraine after the war. According to him, moscow "wants to see Ukraine succeed," although he admitted that this sounds strange.
The US president also complained about "bad people" who, according to him, "made up a lot of things" and thus prevented the achievement of agreements between Washington and moscow.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready to withdraw troops, but this will be done only if the aggressor country russia takes mirror actions.
On December 28, US President Donald Trump said that a few hours before his meeting with Zelenskyy, he had a "good" phone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin.
