US President Donald Trump said that the best time to conclude a peace agreement between Ukraine and russia was when he spoke of "no cards" during the negotiations.
According to Trump's words, it was at that time that the parties had the best chance of reaching an agreement: "When I was in this office and I talked about no cards, I said, "You have no cards?" That was the time to settle. I thought that would have been a much better time to settle, but they their wisdom decided not to do that. They have a lot of things against him right now," the American leader said.
It is unclear whether he was talking about Ukraine or russia, as Trump has repeatedly mentioned the "lack of cards" in relation to both sides. In particular, he used this phrase during a tense meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 28 in the Oval Office, after which the Ukrainian President returned to Kyiv early. The media called that conversation scandalous and unfortunate for Ukraine.
Later, in March, Trump said that neither Ukraine nor russia has cards to play, emphasizing the need to stop the war and reach a deal as soon as possible.
Recall that Ushakov said that after talks in moscow with the American delegation they did not find a compromise variant of the peace plan to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Putin also pointed to the "destructive actions of the European side," which suggests, Ushakov said, that he may try to blame any failure to reach a peace deal on the EU, which, notably, was not represented at the meeting.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, after a visit to moscow and lengthy talks with the russian side, US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner canceled their planned arrival to Brussels to meet with Zelenskyy.
