The US President's Special Envoy for russia, Steve Witkoff, intends to offer vladimir putin an agreement under which Washington de facto recognizes mussia's control over Crimea and part of the occupied Ukrainian territories in exchange for Moscow's agreement to a peace deal.
It was reported by the Telegraph.
President Donald Trump sent Witkoff along with his son-in-law Jared Kushner to moscow to convey the proposal. According to the newspaper, the initial version of the peace plan, which Witkoff allegedly developed together with putin's special representative Kirill Dmitriev, provided for the actual recognition of Crimea, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions as territories under russian control.
With regard to the occupied districts of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions, it was proposed to recognize them as de facto under russian control after the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement
After consultations between Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva, an updated version of the 19-point plan appeared. At the same time, according to Telegraph sources, the clause on possible American recognition of russian control over the occupied territories remains part of the strategy. At the same time, Ukraine is not going to be forced to officially recognize the russian occupation.
The United States and the EU have consistently refused to recognize the annexation of Crimea, so any changes in this position would mean a significant departure of Washington from established diplomatic principles.
As a reminder, Ukraine and the United States prepared an updated and revised framework document for peace following the talks in Geneva on November 23.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, said that during the talks, the American and Ukrainian delegations discussed the peace plan "point by point." The most sensitive issues will be brought to the level of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump said, that he sent his special envoy Steve Witkoff to moscow to agree on a "peaceful plan" to end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll would travel to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Vice President J.D. Vance called media reports about internal disagreements in President Donald Trump's team over the settlement of the russian-Ukrainian war, which also referred to US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll's pressure on Ukraine with statements about the threat of an imminent defeat of the Armed Forces in order to accept a peace agreement, fake.
