Ukrainian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Andrii Hnatov said that the reduction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was not discussed during the negotiations with the United States on a peace plan.

He said this in an interview with LIGA.net.

"It was not about reducing the Armed Forces. It was about views on the number of the Armed Forces in peacetime. This is a very controversial topic," Hnatov said.

He noted that both the Ukrainian and American sides voiced "the right idea" that the best guarantee for Ukraine would be an equipped and combat-ready army.

In addition, Hnatov added, the way the General Staff plans to encourage soldiers to stay in service after the end of hostilities will depend on an understanding of what Ukraine's army will look like in the future. He said that the General Staff has an understanding of what needs to be done.

"All institutions should work here. We need to understand what the Ukrainian army will look like, its size, salaries, social guarantees for the military and many other issues. This work is not the responsibility of the General Staff alone. We have a vision. This is a working document, it is being developed," he explained.

As a reminder, Ukraine and the United States prepared an updated and revised framework document on peace following the talks in Geneva on November 23.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, said that during the talks, the American and Ukrainian delegations discussed the peace plan "point by point." The most sensitive issues will be brought to the level of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Trump said that he sent his special envoy Steve Witkoff to moscow to agree on a "peaceful plan" to end the war in Ukraine. At the same time, US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll will travel to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Vice President J.D. Vance said media reports about internal disagreements in President Donald Trump's team over the settlement of the russian-Ukrainian war, which also referred to US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll's pressure on Ukraine with statements about the threat of an imminent defeat of the Armed Forces in order to accept a peace agreement, were fake.
