Ukraine is to receive long-range missiles. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced this at a press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Berlin, Anadolu Ajansi reports.

"For months, we have been working intensively with the Ukrainian government to implement projects for long-range fire, as we technically call it. The Ukrainian army will be equipped with such weapon systems," Merz said.

The politician did not disclose the number of missiles or the delivery time. He also avoided the question of Germany's previous refusal to buy Taurus, explaining it "as a tactic to increase pressure on Russia."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Pistorius previously stated that Germany is not considering the possibility of supplying Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

On May 12, German government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said that the German government would not comment on plans to supply Taurus missiles to Ukraine.

On April 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that, according to then-German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, his country cannot transfer TAURUS missiles to Ukraine.
