D.Trading, the European trading division of the Ukrainian DTEK group, imported the first tanker with American LNG through the Lithuanian Klaipeda terminal.
This is announced by the ExPro publication, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
D.Trading reported that the LNG was imported from the Plaquemines plant of the American manufacturer Venture Global in Louisiana.
On the morning of November 18, the tanker GasLog Houston delivered about 100 million cubic meters of natural gas after regasification to the Klaipeda terminal.
D.Trading was fully responsible for the gas supply: ensuring cargo safety, chartering the vessel and hedging risks.
"For a company, managing this level of complexity is a completely different matter than receiving cargo on delivery terms. When you have your own tanker and you control where your cargo is going, this is a real deal," said D.Trading's LNG Director James O'Brien.
As noted by DTEK, natural gas is planned to be imported to Ukraine (via Poland), the Baltic countries and Poland to increase energy security.
The company reported that it is negotiating further imports of American LNG via Lithuania and Greece, as Europe intends to gradually abandon supplies of russian gas by the end of 2027.
In addition, D. Trading will import natural gas to Ukraine from Greece via Route 1 in November.
According to ExPro, the company is the largest importer of gas in this direction in November - over 12 million cubic meters.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late May, operators of 5 countries (Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine) agreed on the supply of American LNG to Ukraine.
On May 27, the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and the Energy Sector of Ukraine simplified the transportation of gas to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan Corridor.
After a two-month break, three companies have booked capacity to import natural gas to Ukraine via the joint Route 1 Trans-Balkan route for November.
Among the companies that have booked capacity to import gas from Greece to Ukraine are: Greek DEPA Commercial, D.Trading (a subsidiary of Ukraine's largest gas producer DTEK Group) and Swiss Axpo Trading.
