Operators of 5 countries agreed to supply American LNG to Ukraine

The gas transmission system operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine are jointly offering a monthly combined firm capacity product for the period from June to October 2025, which will facilitate the transportation of gas from Greece to Ukraine.

This is stated in the message of the gas transmission system operator, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The message states that the combined capacity product for the transportation of natural gas from Greece to Ukraine will be offered along the strategically located Trans-Balkan route through the following connection points: Kulata/Sidirokastro, Negru Vodă 1/Kardam, Isaccea 1/Orlivka, Căușeni and Hrebenyky.

Booking of the monthly capacity of the product for June 2025 in the amount of 31,356,129 kWh/day will be available on the Regional Booking Platform (RBP) on May 29, 2025.

Given the limited time before the start of the auction, if a significant amount of the offered capacity remains unbooked, the GTS operators will consider holding another capacity auction until the end of the month, the time of which will be announced jointly.

It is noted that in the future, auctions for booking the product capacities for the next calendar month are planned to be held on the fourth Monday of each month.

Capacity allocation will be carried out according to the principle of a single price auction.

To ensure the correct use of the offered product and its application only for supplies to Ukraine, auction participants will not be able to access national virtual trading points (VTPs) and exit points in countries along the route, except for Ukraine. Given these restrictions, the product will be offered at a reserve price equal to the sum of reserve prices applied to the monthly capacity at interconnection points (IPs) for the relevant month, with a discount of 25% (46% for the OGTSU).

This will not only increase the attractiveness of the route, but also help minimize the negative effects of financial barriers and challenges that Ukraine faces.

The product is expected to lead to an increase in the infrastructure load of GTS operators along the route.

This, in turn, will lead to an increase in the operators' revenues, due to the sale of previously unused capacities, and thus lead to a decrease in transportation tariffs for the benefit of GTS users in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 27, the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Natural Resources of Ukraine simplified the transportation of gas to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan Corridor.
