The foreign minister of the aggressor country russia, Sergey Lavrov, may have fallen out of favor with russian dictator vladimir putin. This could have happened because of the breakdown of talks between russia and the United States on Ukraine.
The Moscow Times reported this with reference to russian media publications.
On Tuesday, November 5, a meeting of the russian Security Council was held in moscow, where putin instructed to work on proposals to resume nuclear tests. According to Kommersant, Lavrov was not present at this landmark meeting. He was the only permanent member of the russian Security Council who did not attend the meeting.
An unnamed Kommersant source said that Lavrov "was absent by agreement. The source did not specify the reason for this.
The day before, on November 4, RBC wrote that the russian delegation to the G20 summit, which will be held in South Africa at the end of November, will be headed by Deputy Head of the russian Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin.
Previously, such delegations were headed by the Foreign Minister. The kremlin said that the decision to appoint Oreshkin was made personally by putin.
It is noted that putin again decided to skip the G20 summit. The event will be held in South Africa, which is a signatory to the Rome Statute and is obliged to arrest the dictator under a warrant from the International Criminal Court.
The Moscow Times writes that Lavrov could have fallen out of favor with putin because of the unsatisfactory results of russia's talks with the United States over Ukraine. In late October, Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They were supposed to discuss the terms of the planned summit between putin and US President Donald Trump.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 24, Bloomberg wrote, citing sources, that Secretary of State Rubio had influenced the change in Trump's position on russia.
As a reminder, before that, Trump explained why he decided to cancel the meeting with putin and impose sanctions on russia.
Not long before that, the US Treasury Department announced new sanctions against russia. Oil giants Lukoil and Rosneft, as well as dozens of their subsidiaries, are subject to the restrictions.
