Foreign Ministry begins updating Ukraine's foreign policy strategy

The Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially begun the process of updating Ukraine's foreign policy strategy. The MFA announced this, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

On October 28, a meeting of the MFA Board was held with the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Yermak, Head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Oleh Ivashchenko, and representatives of relevant committees of the Verkhovna Rada, at which a number of tasks related to the strategic development of the state's foreign policy and strengthening the capabilities of the diplomatic service were considered.

"The President is the chief diplomat. We, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are implementing his course. Today, the Board determined the criteria for partnership with states and launched the process of updating the Foreign Policy Strategy. Embassies are the key to effective interaction with partners. Sanctions pressure, support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and reporting the truth about the war depend on them. Diplomacy works on the front line. We are improving the assessment of diplomatic missions so that the results are maximum," Yermak emphasized.

It is noted that the Strategy of Foreign Policy Activities of Ukraine, which was approved in 2021, needs updating, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has developed a concept for relevant changes.

The document provides for the preservation of key priorities, such as European integration, but at the same time proposes a comprehensive adaptation of the provisions of the Strategy to the challenges of wartime, as well as taking into account new geopolitical realities that have arisen as a result of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in October, Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Nicaragua due to its support for russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and recognition of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine as russian. The Foreign Ministry named three red lines that Ukraine will not cross during peace talks.
