Members of the Verkhovna Rada have proposed amendments to the draft state budget for 2026 worth UAH 7 trillion, which is an additional budget and a half. The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget Roksolana Pidlasa (Servant of the People faction) has announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News reports.
"The working group of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget has processed 3339 amendments to the Budget-2026. In general, the estimated cost of the proposals of MPs exceeds UAH 7.1 trillion. To understand the scale: this is an additional one and a half budgets of 2026," she said.
Pidlasa noted that, as a rule, MPs do not indicate from which sources to finance their ideas, but those who do are most fond of the reserve fund and public debt service
"If we suddenly decide to adopt all these proposals, the reserve fund will go into the red by UAH 47 billion, and the "military reserve" (let me remind you, a new program to cover unforeseen military expenses) - by UAH 224.2 billion," the MP noted.
Pidlasa emphasized that the budget committee's duty, according to the law and common sense, is to keep the budget balance and not to increase the deficit, so only proposals with realistic sources of covering expenses will be fully taken into account, and the committee will instruct the government to work on a number of good ideas before the 2nd reading of the draft law.
Next, the draft budget is expected to be considered by the committee (on Friday, October 17), in the Verkhovna Rada (October 21-22) and the second reading (November18-20)
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Pidlasa previously said that MPs broke a 19-year record in the number of amendments to the state budget for 2026.
On September 15, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft state budget for 2026 and submitted it to the Verkhovna Rada for approval.
