Indian oil refiners have bought crude oil from the American company Exxon Mobil for the first time in a long time. It is oil produced in the South American country of Guyana.
The Reuters agency reported this with reference to its own sources.
Unnnamed interlocutors of the agency said that Indian Oil Corp (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp have purchased 2 million barrels of Guyana oil each. Deliveries are expected at the end of this year or early next year.
IOC purchased Golden Arrowhead crude, which was the first purchase of this oil grade in the company's history. Hindustan Petroleum Corp purchased Liza and Unity Gold crude oil.
Reuters writes that these purchases indicate India's intention to diversify oil supplies amid pressure from the United States, which is demanding that New Delhi reduce russian oil imports, thereby reducing funding for the war of the aggressor country russia against Ukraine.
Trump says India will stop buying oil from russia
Yesterday, October 16, US President Donald Trump publicly stated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him of stopping imports of russian oil.
At the same time, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that New Delhi "knows nothing" about the conversation between Trump and Modi regarding the purchase of russian oil.
According to Reuters, citing sources, Indian refiners have not yet received instructions from the government to reduce oil imports from russia.
