Indian oil refiners are cutting crude oil imports from the aggressor country russia by 50% amid US-India trade talks
Reuters reported this on Thursday, October 16, citing its own sources.
An unnamed White House official told reporters that the United States and India had held "productive talks," as a result of which Indian companies began to reduce imports.
At the same time, Indian sources told Reuters that the reduction in russian oil imports is not yet noticeable, it may be reflected in the figures for December or January.
They added that the Indian government has not yet notified refiners of a request to reduce imports from russia.
Trump says India will stop buying russian oil
Yesterday, October 16, US President Donald Trump said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him of stopping imports of russian oil.
"He assured me today that they will not buy oil from Russia. This is a big step. Now we're going to get China to do the same," Trump said.
A little later, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that New Delhi "knows nothing" about the phone conversation between Trump and Modi, during which they allegedly agreed that Indian companies would stop importing oil from russia.
As a reminder, in early October, it became known that russia had more than doubled its oil discounts, which is likely to be used by India.
