Trump to meet Xi Jinping in October - US Secretary of Treasury Bessent

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are set to meet in South Korea in late October to ease tensions between the countries, US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said, Reuters reported on Tuesday, October 14.

Bessent said there had been significant communication between the two sides over the weekend and that staff-level meetings between the two sides would be held in Washington this week on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

"The relationship, despite that statement last week, is good. The lines of communication have reopened, so we'll see what happens. President Trump has said that the tariffs will not go into effect until November 1st. He will meet with Party Chairman Xi Jinping in Korea. I believe that meeting will still happen," the US Secretary of the Treasury said.

In addition, Bessent said that the White House has been in contact with allies and expects support from Europeans, India and democracies in Asia.
