US President Donald Trump said that if European countries imposed sanctions or tariffs against China, it could force Beijing to pressure russia to end the war in Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with Fox News, the White House reported on X.
According to Trump, China is the largest buyer of russian oil and has other leverage over moscow. He added that he plans to talk with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Friday, during which trade issues and the situation around TikTok will also be discussed.
Trump stressed that US-China relations remain working, particularly in the field of trade.
.@POTUS: "China's by far the biggest purchaser of oil from Russia... I'm speaking with President Xi on Friday... we'll see how that all works. If Europe did something with respect to China, I think China would probably maybe force an end to the war." pic.twitter.com/4NfsfzlVag

Recall that US President Donald Trump said that the aggressor country russia is suffering much greater losses in manpower than Ukraine. Therefore, he is supposedly obliged to resolve the conflict.
He also said that russian dictator vladimir putin "let him down" because, despite good relations, he was not yet willing to end the war.
