A russian submarine B-261 Novorossiysk was spotted near the French coast, which unexpectedly surfaced.
This was reported by the NATO Maritime Command.
According to the Alliance, a French frigate, while patrolling the sea lanes, discovered the submarine, after which it established surveillance with it.
NATO suggests that the submarine could have surfaced due to a technical malfunction. At the same time, the command assured that the situation is under full control.
"NATO is ready to defend our Alliance, constantly monitoring the situation at sea and focusing on awareness of the situation at sea across the Atlantic," the military said in a statement.

What is known about the Novorossiysk submarine
The B-261 Novorossiysk submarine is a russian diesel-electric submarine of the Project 636.3 Varshavyanka. On board are six 533 mm torpedo tubes, which are designed to use both torpedoes and anti-ship and universal ammunition; if necessary, some of the torpedoes can be replaced with up to 24 sea mines. The key strike force of Novorossiysk is the ability to launch cruise missiles of the Kalibr-PL complex from an underwater position - these missiles are capable of hitting both sea and land targets at considerable distances.
Recall that on the evening of October 2, the appearance of unidentified drones was recorded near Munich International Airport. In connection with this, the airport's work was suspended. Late Thursday evening, the airport was closed, and the runways were unavailable for use for security reasons.
On the morning of October 4, the airport partially resumed its work.
On September 19, three russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland without permission and stayed there for 12 minutes.
On September 23, the main airport in Copenhagen in Denmark was temporarily closed for four hours due to drones. The police did not shoot down any of the UAVs. The country called the incident the most serious attack on critical infrastructure and linked it to a series of russian drone incursions in Europe. The same evening, drones were spotted over Norway's main airport.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Denmark banned civilian drone flights on September 29 after several drones were spotted over the country's military facilities.
