A family of five, including a child, were killed in a downpour in Odesa. The people lived in the ground floor of the house and were unable to escape. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Odesa Regional State Emergency Service, Maryna Averina, in a comment to Ukrainian Pravda and the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, in Telegram.
Kiper said that five killed people were found at once - two men, two women and a girl of about 8 years old - in a house in Serhiya Eizenstaina Lane. As of 8:50 am, rescuers did not have access to the bodies, the operation to pump out the water was ongoing.
"The most terrible case is a family of five people who lived on the ground floor of a house. They were covered by a wave and could not get out. The whole family was killed," Averina said, a spokeswoman for the regional department of the State Emergency Service.
It is reported that two more bodies were found on Balkivska Street: an unidentified woman aged 55-65 and a local resident born in 1987.
Another woman born in 1968 was killed on Dacha Kovalevskoho Street.
Also, at around 7:00 am, the body of a 23-year-old girl who was considered missing was found.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in Odesa, two months' worth of precipitation fell in 7 hours of rain.
Rescuers have been eliminating the consequences of the bad weather in Odesa and the Odesa Region for almost a day, currently 9 people are known to have been killed as a result of the downpour, including 1 child.
Rain began in Odesa on September 30. Due to flooding, traffic on many streets was difficult, some roads were completely blocked. Public transport operated with changes: some tram and trolleybus routes were temporarily closed.
