For almost a day, rescuers have been eliminating the consequences of the bad weather in Odesa and the Odesa Region on the afternoon of September 30, and 9 people have been killed as a result of the downpour, including 1 child. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) reported this on Telegram.
It is reported that a total of 362 people were rescued and 227 vehicles were evacuated.
"All night long, rescuers helped evacuate people from water traps, remove cars, pump water out of buildings, and search for the missing girl, who was found at 7 am. A psychologist from the State Emergency Service worked at the scene of the search," the report says.
It is also noted that 255 rescuers and 68 pieces of equipment were involved from the State Emergency Service. The work is ongoing.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, rescuers in Odesa are searching for a 23-year-old girl who could have been swept away by a stream of water during severe weather.
It started raining in Odesa on September 30. Due to flooding, traffic on many streets was difficult, some roads were completely blocked. Public transport worked in shifts: some tram and trolleybus routes were temporarily closed.
In one day, 1.5 months' worth of precipitation fell in Odesa, as a result of which all electric transport stopped at 05:30 pm.
