Zelenskyy awards Shapovalov rank of Major General

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the rank of Major General to the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Hennadii Shapovalov. This is stated in decree No. 717 dated September 30, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"To award the military rank of Major General to Brigadier General Hennadi Mykolayovych Shapovalov - Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the document states.

47-year-old Shapovalov was appointed Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in June.

From April 16, 2024 to February 4, 2025, he was the commander of the troops of the South operational command, during the same period he commanded the Tavria operational troops group (until February 2025).

He also headed the Ukrainian team in the NATO Mission to Coordinate the Delivery of Military Assistance to Ukraine (Wiesbaden, Germany).

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 19, Zelenskyy appointed Shapovalov as Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On June 1, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi announced that he had decided to resign due to the strike by the aggressor country of russia on a training ground, which killed 12 soldiers. On June 3, Drapatyi was appointed Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
