A blackout occurred at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. It was disconnected from the single power transmission line through which the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant received power from the Ukrainian power system. This was stated in a message from the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine on Tuesday, September 23.
The Ministry of Energy noted that today at 16:56 the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the single power transmission line with the Ukrainian power system. This is the tenth blackout at the nuclear power plant since the beginning of the Russian occupation.
"The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant switched to powering its own needs from diesel generators. This is a significant violation of the conditions for the normal operation of the plant. Throughout the entire period of occupation, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant repeatedly suffered power outages due to Russian shelling and damage to the energy infrastructure," the message says.
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that the return of the Zaporizhzhia NPP under full and legitimate control of Ukraine is the only way to restore nuclear safety in the region.
