EU denies delay in preparing new sanctions package against russia

The European Commission has said that a new package of sanctions against russia is not being delayed, despite media reports that the planned presentation of measures against the aggressor country has been postponed.

European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho has announced this, The Guardian reports.

She denied that the latest round of sanctions against russia is being delayed.

"We did see reports about the delay, but the fact is that we never announced a concrete date, so we don't see any delay, right? Discussions are ongoing in order to have a solid package to be put forward as soon as it is ready," Pinho said.

It is noted that on Tuesday, EU representatives told journalists, including from Politico and Reuters, that the presentation of the new sanctions package, which was due to take place on Wednesday, would be delayed.

Also, according to Reuters, citing diplomats, the new sanctions package is likely to include russian banks, moscow's "shadow fleet" of oil tankers that evade sanctions, and lists to prevent other countries from circumventing EU and US sanctions.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the French publication Le Monde informed, citing its own sources, that the European Union will not comply with US President Donald Trump's demands needed to tighten US sanctions on the aggressor country russia.

As we recall, last Saturday, September 13, the US president demanded that NATO allies completely abandon imports of russian oil, as well as impose duties on goods from China and India in the amount of 50-100%.
