Poland spent EUR 400,000 to shoot down russian drone for few thousand euros – Bild

Poland used AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, launched from F-35 fighters, to shoot down drones of the aggressor country russia. Launching one such missile costs more than EUR 400,000, while the cost of a drone is only a few thousand euros. It was reported by the Bild agency on Thursday, September 11.

According to a senior NATO officer, using the F-35 against drones "makes no military sense." The North Atlantic Alliance is currently considering various options for countering russian provocations. Currently, Poland uses F-35 fighters from the Netherlands and Patriot air defense systems from Germany to protect its airspace.

"F-35 fighter pilots attacked drones with AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The problem: launching a missile costs over EUR 400,000, while the cost of a drone is only a few thousand euros," the article says.

According to Bild, NATO countries can deploy additional air defense assets (fighters, Patriot systems, IRIS-T, soldiers) on the eastern flank, as well as deploy warships, submarines, reconnaissance aircraft and drones against airspace violations.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 10, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces confirmed the violation of the country's airspace during the night attack by the aggressor country russia on Ukraine.

Debris from one of the drones that attacked Poland fell on a residential building in the village of Wiryki, Lublin Voivodeship.

On September 10, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that their airspace had been violated 19 times during the night.
