US President Donald Trump told European leaders of the Coalition of the Willing that Europe should stop buying oil from the aggressor country of russia, which helps it finance its war against Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters on Thursday, September 4, citing a statement from a White House representative.
Trump joined the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing by telephone, which was held under the chairmanship of French President Emmanuel Macron. The participants discussed aid to Ukraine.
"President Trump stressed that Europe should stop buying russian oil, which finances the war - because russia received EUR 1.1 billion from the EU in fuel sales in one year," a White House representative said.
Trump also stressed that European leaders should put economic pressure on China for financing russia's military efforts, the official said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 3, the Elysee Palace (Macron's residence) confirmed that European leaders, and in particular President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will hold telephone talks with US President Donald Trump after their meeting within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing.
On September 2, US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said that US President Donald Trump will consider imposing sanctions on russia this week in response to recent massive attacks on Ukraine.
As a reminder, the Coalition of the Willing stated, following the results of the meeting on August 17, that it is ready to deploy security forces in Ukraine after the ceasefire, protect air and sea space, and restore the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
