Before the meeting of russian leader vladimir putin with Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelenskyy, it is necessary to work out all the issues and the legitimacy of signing the peace agreement from the Ukrainian side at the level of experts and ministers.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated this, Reuters reported on Thursday, August 21.
Lavrov said that putin is allegedly ready to meet with Zelenskyy, which he has repeatedly said. According to him, there are "questions regarding Zelensky's authority to sign the peace agreement."
"With the understanding that all issues that require consideration at the highest level will be well worked out, and experts and ministers will prepare appropriate recommendations. And, of course, with the understanding that when and if - hopefully, when - it comes to signing future agreements, the issue of the legitimacy of the person who signs these agreements from the Ukrainian side will be resolved," the russian foreign minister said.
The russian side considers the agreements between Kyiv and moscow in Istanbul in 2022 to be the best security guarantees for Ukraine. According to the draft of this document, cited by Reuters, Ukraine was to agree to permanent neutrality in exchange for international security guarantees from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council: the United Kingdom, China, France, russia and the United States.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 21, the British publication The Guardian stated that the US President intends to refuse to organize a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and russian dictator vladimir putin.
On August 19, Trump published a post on the social network Truth Social, in which he announced the start of preparations for a meeting between Zelenskyy and putin.
On August 18, the American television channel CNN published a story that putin is not ready to meet with Zelenskyy "neither now nor later."
