US President Donald Trump, during a planned meeting with russian leader vladimir putin in Alaska, may negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine without the involvement of Kyiv and European partners.
This was reported to Reuters by a source familiar with the discussions in the United States.
According to him, such a scenario could cause serious problems in relations with Ukraine and the EU. At the same time, the interlocutor expressed doubt that such an agreement between Trump and putin is possible directly.
There are also fears in Europe that the agreement between the two leaders may turn out to be disadvantageous for the security of Europe and Ukraine, and Kyiv may be forced to accept it.
One senior official from Eastern Europe reported that work is currently underway with American partners to prevent such a development.
"There is still a lot of time until Friday," he noted.
Recall that Trump and putin will hold a bilateral meeting in Alaska on Friday, August 15.
According to Bloomberg, American and russian officials are working on an agreement before the meeting between Trump and putin. It will allow russia to consolidate the occupation of several regions of Ukraine.

Experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that vladimir putin has not yet demonstrated a desire to compromise on establishing peace in Ukraine.
