Violence should not change borders – German Foreign Ministry

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized that violence should not change borders, and announced a series of consultations with the participation of Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz against the backdrop of the expected meeting in Alaska - with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and EU and NATO partners.

He wrote about this on X.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry emphasized support for Ukraine "in these important days" in cooperation with the EU and transatlantic partners. He also emphasized support for the US goal of ending russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

"The result should be a just and lasting peace. Violence should not change borders. Where our security is at stake, we have the right to participate in decision-making," Wadephul said.

In this regard, consultations were held with the Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz has also repeatedly communicated with the American side, and on Wednesday he will hold consultations with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and partners from the EU and NATO.

Meanwhile, according to Merz, on Wednesday they will discuss options for putting pressure on russia, possible peace talks, territorial claims and guarantees.

"To this end, we are exchanging views with President Trump and Vice President Vance, as well as the heads of state and government of Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, the President of the European Commission, the President of the EU Council and the Secretary General of NATO," he said.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, The Telegraph, citing sources, stated that Zelenskyy acknowledged the possibility that Kyiv would be forced to agree to maintain under russian control the territories that it had already occupied.

Recall, Zelenskyy previously stated that the answer to the question of territorial integrity is contained in the Constitution of Ukraine, and no one will deviate from it. He emphasized: any peace solutions adopted without Ukraine's participation are "dead" and will never work.

Meanwhile, ISW analysts believe that russian dictator vladimir putin has not yet demonstrated a desire to compromise on establishing peace in Ukraine, and a meeting with US President Donald Trump is unlikely to change this.
