The aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, which is the only ship of this type in service with the army of the aggressor country, russia, is waiting to be sold or disposed.
According to the russian publication Kommersant, this was stated by the chairman of the board and director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Andrey Kostin.
According to him, the USC believes that the only russian aircraft carrier, which turned 40 in 2022, does not make sense to repair.
"We believe that there is no point in repairing it. It is already more than 40 years old, and it is an extremely expensive thing," Kostin said.
He added that the aircraft carrier will probably be either disposed or sold.
Admiral Kuznetsov is a project 1143.5 aircraft-carrying cruiser. Its construction began in 1982 at the Black Sea Shipyard in Mykolaiv. The ship was launched in 1985.
The ship is the only aircraft carrier in service with the russian Navy.
Since 2018, Admiral Kuznetsov has been undergoing modernization at the Zvezdochka ship repair center in the Arkhangelsk Oblast of the russian federation.
As Ukrainian News Agency reported, earlier in July, russian media reported that the leadership of the russian Navy and the USC were discussing the feasibility of returning Admiral Kuznetsov to the fleet.
Recall that in December 2022, a fire broke out on the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.
A similar situation occurred in December 2019.
