US not gives Germany clear timeframe for transfer of Patriot systems, details being discussed – Merz

The replacement of Patriot air defense systems for Germany from the US for their transfer to Ukraine is currently not ensured, the defense ministers of the countries are negotiating the transfer of American air defense to Berlin. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced this at a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Berlin, Ukrinform reports.

"There is a general promise from the American government to transfer Patriot to us, Germany and the European Union, so that we transfer the said systems to Ukraine. We transfer and receive a replacement. But this replacement has not yet been actually ensured," he said.

It was also reported that the Norwegian Prime Minister stated that Berlin is positioning itself as a leader in providing Ukraine with additional air defense systems.

"Supporting Ukraine is a legitimate task of protecting international law and the nation's right to self-defense, but it is also about maintaining order in Europe," he emphasized.

The United States informed Switzerland about the delay in the supply of MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems due to the shift in priority towards Ukraine.

On July 4, US President Donald Trump announced that Ukraine would receive 17 Patriot air defense systems.
