The UK and Ukraine will sign an agreement under which a subsidiary of the French group Thales will produce 5,000 anti-aircraft missiles for the Ukrainian army.
This is according to a message on the official website of the British government, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
This is an agreement between London and Kyiv, which will be signed at the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine this year.
The agreement provides for the creation of 200 additional jobs at the Thales Air Defence plant in Belfast. It will produce over 5,000 missiles for air defense systems.
The funds for this will be allocated thanks to a guarantee of GBP 2.5 billion and a 19-year financing agreement.
It is not specified which missiles are in question. The timeframe for the production and delivery of these munitions to Ukraine is also unclear.
According to open sources, Thales Air Defence is engaged in the production of Starstreak man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS). These MANPADS were previously supplied to Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 24 of this year it became known that Ukraine and the UK are launching a new initiative to jointly produce UAVs.
Shortly before this, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that Kyiv would attract GBP 1.7 billion from London for additional arms procurement.
