Ukraine to attract GBP 1.7 billion from UK for additional weapons purchases – Shmyhal

Ukraine will attract GBP 1.7 billion from the UK for additional weapons purchases. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Ukraine will attract almost GBP 1.7 billion from the UK for additional weapons purchases. The relevant decision was made at a government meeting. With these funds, we plan to purchase Rapid Ranger air defense systems, as well as Marlet light multi-purpose missiles. This will significantly strengthen our air defense and ability to stop the enemy," he said.

Shmyhal noted that this month the UK also announced record assistance for the supply of drones worth GBP 350 million, which will allow Ukraine to transfer 100,000 drones this year.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in early June, the UK announced that it was stepping up its support for Ukraine, aiming to increase the production and purchase of drones for delivery to Ukraine tenfold this year. Last year, the UK supplied more than 10,000 drones to Ukraine, and this year tens of thousands of drones have already been delivered, with an ambitious goal of reaching 100,000 drones in the current financial year. It is indicated that the record investment in drones for Ukraine in the amount of GBP 350 million is part of the UK's military support in the amount of GPB 4.5 billion this year.
