Ukraine and Great Britain launch a new initiative for joint production of drones, during the first three years the British side will finance the purchase of Ukrainian drones, which will be manufactured in the UK. This was announced by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Ukraine and Great Britain are launching a new initiative for joint production of drones. Such an agreement was reached by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. As part of the initiative, during the first three years of this mega-project, the British side will finance the purchase of a whole range of Ukrainian drones, which will be manufactured in the UK," he said.
Umerov noted that thanks to this project, British defense companies will be able to quickly design and produce the most modern drones on a large scale.
"While the war is going on, all production will be directed to the needs of the Defense Forces. At the same time, after its end, the UK and Ukraine will distribute the manufactured drones between themselves. This will contribute to the scaling of advanced technologies, increasing the production of drones and the integration of our defense industries," the minister noted.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking on Telegram about his meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, said that they discussed the development of defense cooperation. In particular, according to him, interaction in this area will allow Ukraine to receive stable financing for important projects, namely in the production of interceptor drones and long-range drones, the result of the meeting was an additional decision on joint production. They paid special attention to strengthening Ukrainian air defense and also reached an agreement.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early June, the United Kingdom announced that it was increasing its support for Ukraine, setting a goal of a tenfold increase in the production and procurement of drones for delivery to Ukraine this year.
