Low stocks of the critical Patriot missiles for the Patriot systems have led the administration of US President Donald Trump to suspend their deliveries to Ukraine, The Guardian reported on Tuesday, July 8.
The publication writes that the United States has only about 25% of the Patriots in stock, which are essential for the Pentagon's military plans. The war in the Middle East has also emptied warehouses, as a result of which the Trump administration has frozen the latest transfer of ammunition to Ukraine.
"The stockpile of the Patriot missiles has fallen so low that it raised concern inside the Pentagon that it could jeopardize potential US military operations, and deputy defense secretary, Stephen Feinberg, authorized the transfer to be halted while they reviewed where weapons were being sent," the material says.
The decision to halt the transfer of ammunition to Ukraine was largely based on the Pentagon's global ammunition tracker, which tracked the minimum level of ammunition to fulfill the operational plans of the US military.
According to the tracker, which is managed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency, stocks of a number of critical ammunition have been below the required level for several years since the Biden administration began sending military aid to Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 8, Axios reported that US President Donald Trump had promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to send 10 Patriot interceptor missiles.
On July 8, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the US had temporarily suspended the delivery of some military aid to Ukraine as part of the Pentagon's standard procedure for reviewing support provided to other countries.
As a reminder, on July 2, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly reported in a comment to NBC News that the United States had decided to stop supplying some weapons to Ukraine.
