Ukrainian and US Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump are likely to hold a phone call on Friday, July 4. The Financial Times reported this, citing unnamed sources familiar with the planning.
Zelenskyy and Trump are expected to discuss the abrupt halt to the supply of some key US weapons to Kyiv; the Ukrainian President is also expected to raise the issue of possible future arms sales.
The publication noted that the time of the Presidents' conversation could change.
The White House and the Office of the President of Ukraine have not yet responded to FT's requests for official comments on the leaders' possible conversation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 2, Politico, citing sources, reported that the US had temporarily suspended the supply of some air defense and ammunition to Ukraine.
Later that day, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly confirmed in a comment to NBC News that the United States had decided to stop supplying some weapons to Ukraine.
US Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce also stated that this decision concerns only an isolated case and does not mean a complete cessation of military supplies to Ukraine.
In turn, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense stated that there had been no official notification from the United States about stopping or revising the schedules for supplying defense assistance to Ukraine.
At the same time, on June 25, Donald Trump stated that the United States would "look" into whether it could supply Ukraine with Patriot air defense systems, because America also needs them.
