Slovakia will not support new sanctions against russia - Fico

Slovakia will not support the introduction of a new package of sanctions against the aggressor country russia.

The country's Prime Minister Robert Fico announced this on Facebook on Tuesday, June 10.

Fico said that before introducing a new, 18th package of sanctions against russia, the European Commission should think through and publish a strategy for supporting and guiding Slovakia.

"The Slovak Republic will not support the prepared 18th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation if the European Commission does not propose a real solution to the crisis situation in which Slovakia will find itself after the complete cessation of gas, oil and nuclear fuel supplies from Russia," the Prime Minister wrote.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Western countries do not want to increase sanctions pressure on the aggressor country russia, since Ukraine does not mobilize men aged 18-24.

Also on June 10, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for the introduction of devastating sanctions against russia for shelling Ukraine.

As a reminder, on May 20, the European Union agreed to impose the 17th package of sanctions against russia for its full-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
