The aggressor country russia is trying to discredit the Ukrainian delegation that participated in the negotiations in Turkey. To do this, the occupiers' propaganda machine launched a fake about a personal meeting between the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and the advisor to the russian dictator Vladimir Medinsky.
It was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
After the negotiations, Medinsky said that he allegedly had a "bilateral meeting" with Umerov, who, as a reminder, heads the Ukrainian delegation. According to the russian, this meeting allegedly took place before the meeting of the Ukrainian and russian delegations.
The CCD emphasized that such a meeting really did take place, but it was held in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Hakan Fidan.
"The statements about the alleged "closed agreements" reached at this meeting are a manipulation aimed at undermining trust in the Ukrainian negotiating team," the report says.
This fake is part of a russian information campaign directed against members of the Ukrainian delegation. The russians want to undermine Ukrainians' trust in them, as well as spread the message among the Western audience that Ukraine is allegedly trying to drag out the negotiations.
Recall, on June 2, Medinsky said in a comment to russian media that before the meeting of the Ukrainian and russian delegations, he allegedly met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Umerov. According to the russian, their meeting lasted longer than the main session of the negotiations.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the second round of negotiations between Ukraine and russia took place in Istanbul on June 2.
According to Umerov, the parties discussed three issues during the negotiations: a ceasefire, an exchange of prisoners, and organizing a meeting at the leadership level.
As a result of the negotiations, the russians agreed only to an exchange.
Later it became known that within the framework of the agreements concluded in Istanbul, Ukraine and the russian federation will exchange two categories of prisoners of war.
