The Ukrainian delegation will consider the possibility of contacts with the russian side during the negotiations in Istanbul, but only on condition that the russian federation demonstrates readiness for a serious dialogue.
This was reported by Reuters, citing a source among Ukrainian diplomats.
The interlocutor noted that the delegation is going to the meeting to find out whether the russian side has the necessary authority to make decisions and is ready for meaningful negotiations.
The Ukrainian delegation is ready for a dialogue with the russian side only if it is truly ready for meaningful negotiations. If this does not happen, Kyiv will regard the meeting as an imitation of the process by Moscow, and not a sincere attempt to achieve peace.
Recall that on the eve of the negotiations in Istanbul, russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy "a clown and a loser." In response, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that instead of real dialogue, Moscow chooses personal insults and this is not the first time that the russian foreign ministry "becomes a laughing stock."
A source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that the time of the meeting between Ukraine and russia has not yet been set, so there is no question of postponement.
In Turkey, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, before meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, called the delegation approved by russian leader vladimir putin for negotiations with Ukraine a sham.
