President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Ankara, Turkey, where he is scheduled to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and called the delegation approved by russian leader vladimir putin for negotiations with Ukraine sham. Zelenskyy announced this after arriving in Ankara, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
He thanked Erdoğan for organizing the opportunity for direct negotiations with russia.
Zelenskyy also noted that the Ukrainian delegation in Turkey is represented at the highest level, with Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiha, representatives of the President's Office, the military, and intelligence representatives present, and is ready to make any decisions that can lead to the expected just peace.
He said that his visit to Turkey will begin with a meeting with Erdoğan. Zelenskyy also added that Ukraine is in contact with the American side, which is expected to be represented in Turkey at a high level.
"We'll see, but the level of the russians is not officially known to me yet, but from what we see, it looks more like a sham level. We will think about what we will do, what our steps will be after talking with President Erdoğan," he said.
Zelenskyy added that the Ukrainian side wants to understand what the mandate of the russian delegation is, whether they are capable of making any decisions.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, late in the evening of May 14, the russian side announced that putin had approved the composition of the delegation for negotiations with Ukraine, headed by assistant to the president of the russian federation Vladimir Medinsky.
On May 11, russian dictator vladimir putin said that russia was ready for bilateral negotiations with Ukraine, and proposed holding them in Turkey on May 15. Zelenskyy said that on May 15, he would personally wait for the russian dictator to hold bilateral talks in Istanbul.
