United States President Donald Trump said that in the negotiations to resolve the war between russia and Ukraine, the United States is closer to one of the parties. At the same time, he did not specify which side he was referring to.
Trump said this in an interview with the Meet the Press program on NBC.
When asked whether the process of reaching a peace agreement was progressing after Kyiv and Washington signed an agreement on subsoil, the politician replied that he hoped so.
"I do believe we're closer with one party and maybe not as close with the other, but we'll have to see. I'd like to not say which one we're closer to," Trump added.
He also added that he did not rule out the possibility that the United States would cease to be a mediator in the peace process, but did not specify what exactly could become a "red line" for such a decision.
"There'll be a time when I will say, 'Okay, keep going, keep being stupid.' Sometimes I get close to it, and then positive things happen. There might be something I can't do. Maybe it's not possible to do. Just so you understand, we're talking tremendous hatred (between the parties – Ed.)," Trump stressed.
Recall that the signing of the mineral agreement by Ukraine and the United States of America has caused concern among russian elites. They fear that moscow may lose its advantage in the negotiations due to the rapprochement of Kyiv and Washington.
On April 30, Ukrainian Economy Minister Yuliia Svirydenko and her American counterpart Scott Bessent signed the mineral agreement.
According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the mineral agreement signed with the United States covers Ukraine's 1991 borders.
The US State Department called the signing of the agreement a step towards ending the war.
