Ukraine has proposed and continues to insist on a lasting ceasefire and, like the US, on establishing peace. Now it is the turn of (aggressor country) russia to show its true intentions.
US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated this to the NewsNation TV channel on Wednesday, April 30.
Bruce noted that US President Donald Trump wants to see not statements, but actions regarding peace in Ukraine. According to her, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha rightly said that there is no need to wait weeks for a ceasefire if it can be done now.
"Ukraine has clearly shown and committed to a ceasefire, and has regularly reiterated, as we have, that the ceasefire proposed by Russia should be extended beyond a few hours or days, but that has not happened. And the president has been clear about the Russian attack on civilians. We will never forget that, an attack that has taken so many lives. And these are actions that we have seen from Russia," the US State Department spokeswoman stressed.
In the coming days, the US will watch not for statements, but for concrete steps. If the war does not stop, there will be other options, such as already prepared sanctions and their strengthening against russia, Bruce said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 28, russian dictator vladimir putin said that from 12 a.m. on May 8 to 12 a.m. on May 11, the russian army allegedly intends to cease fire.
On April 28, US President Donald Trump called on putin to "cease fire", sit down at the negotiating table and conclude a peace agreement.
On April 29, US President's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that russia and Ukraine need to move quickly towards a deal before "Trump loses his patience."
