One of the russian drones that attacked Ukraine last night probably briefly violated Romanian airspace. The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported this.
On the night of April 28-29, russian forces carried out a series of drone strikes on civilian objects and port infrastructure in Ukraine near the border with Romania.
As a result, an air alert was declared in Tulcea County and warnings were sent to the population through the RO-ALERT system for the northeastern part of the county.
In accordance with procedures, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force and two Eurofighter aircraft of the Italian Air Force, which are part of the Air Police Combat Service, took to the air in succession to observe and protect Romanian airspace.
“During the attacks on Ukrainian targets, the Romanian radar surveillance system indicated the possibility that the trajectory of one of the drones involved in the attack could have crossed the national airspace for a very short period of time at a depth of up to 500 meters in the area approximately 8 km east of the village of C.A. Rosetti in Tulcea County,” the statement said.
It noted that, in accordance with standard procedures, searches will be carried out in areas where risks may arise as a result of these situations, and airspace surveillance missions will continue. Allied structures are also constantly informed of the situations arising from the attacks.
“The Ministry of National Defense remains steadfast in its condemnation of these attacks carried out by the russian federation against Ukrainian civilian objects and infrastructure, which are unjustified and seriously violate the norms of international law,” the Romanian Defense Ministry stressed.
The department condemned russia's actions and launched an investigation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the morning of December 25, during the massive shelling of Ukraine, one of the russian missiles flew into Moldovan airspace, after which it flew in the sky over Romania.
At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of Defense did not confirm that a russian missile was in the country's airspace on December 25.
We also wrote that at the end of October this year, russian drones flew into Romania three times in a week.
