American Congresswoman Victoria Spartz, who is of Ukrainian origin, accused the British publication The Telegraph of distorting her position on Ukraine.
This is stated in an official statement posted on the politician's website.
According to her team, the newspaper submitted a headline that, in their opinion, distorts Spartz's statements. In addition, in the material, the journalists quoted formulations that she, according to her, never voiced. After the appeal of the congresswoman's representatives, the publication removed quotation marks from individual phrases, but left punctuation elements that could create the impression of a direct quote.
In her statement, Spartz notes that this situation became the basis for manipulation by the Ukrainian authorities, in particular, the presidential team of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Spartz even claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “propaganda machine” used her words to blame the US administration.
“This headline was ‘conveniently’ used by Zelenskyy’s propaganda machine to smear her and President Trump and to continue the accusations against the United States of Zelenskyy’s defeat and betrayal of his country. Initially, the Telegraph article even used quotation marks to distort something that Congresswoman Spartz never said. After several contacts with our team, they removed the quotation marks but left the colon to create the impression of a false statement,” the report said.
Spartz recalled her support for the Ukrainian military, emphasizing that her efforts were being undermined “due to the incompetence of Ukraine’s leadership.”
In the context of the war, Spartz expressed skepticism about the possibility of a full return of the occupied territories and indicated that a compromise solution to the conflict could only be achieved with US support.
Separately, she responded to the comment of the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Heorhii Tykhyi, who questioned her Ukrainian roots. In response, Spartz emphasized that she was proud of her origin and stated that her family comes from those whom she called "real warriors", and not "people from Zelenskyy's entourage".
As we will recall, in her recent interview, Victoria Spartz stated that Ukrainian citizens should not support Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the next elections. She also said that she "simply does not understand" how Ukraine could not agree to give russia the occupied territories.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 2, Ukraine handed over to the US evidence of the aggressor country russia's violation of the moratorium on strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.
On March 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the russian army continued to strike at Ukrainian energy facilities.
