President's Office denies preparations for elections

Ukraine has not started preparations for the elections and does not see the possibility of holding them safely.

Mykhailo Podoliak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President, has stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Kyiv is not going to abandon the legal procedure, according to which the electoral process will not begin while martial law is in effect. When it ends, the parliament will be able to vote for such a decision. Two procedures will be carried out in parallel.

"The first is 3-6 months, rather 6 months, taking everything into account, preparation for the elections. That is, the organization of the process. And in parallel, changes will be made to the legislation. Because we understand that these will be post-war elections, there are certain nuances, and the CEC must propose changes to the legislation as such," the advisor to the head of the President's Office said.

However, as long as there is no ceasefire, martial law will not be lifted, so as not to put people in danger.

The President's Office once again reminded that there is no way to safely organize the election process while russia is striking the territory of Ukraine every night.

It is also unknown how internally displaced persons could vote.

"We need to clearly understand how we will work with a large number of temporarily displaced persons. And this is a completely different job, a completely different volume of work on fixing the voter list and fixing territorial electoral districts, etc. So these are quite complex processes, and they will not be resolved there, because Russia wants something," concluded Podoliak.

Recall that the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, denied holding a meeting on preparations for the elections, which The Economist previously wrote about.

The Central Election Commission believes that organizing elections after the cessation of hostilities will take more time than for regular elections. Changes in legislation will also be required.
