Post-war elections in Ukraine will take more time - CEC

Organizing elections after the cessation of hostilities will take more time than for regular elections. Changes in legislation will also be required.

This was stated by the head of the Central Election Commission, Oleh Didenko, in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.

According to him, Ukraine has legislation on how to hold elections after the end of martial law, but it needs to be adjusted.

"Now, it seems, there is such a consensus in society and among politicians that a longer period of time is needed to prepare for elections after the end of martial law than that specified by law," he said.

According to the current legislation, parliamentary elections should be held first, and then presidential elections. Although "there may be nuances."

"Within a month after the end of martial law, the Central Election Commission must announce parliamentary elections, and the election process itself should last 60 days," Didenko said.

After that, the Verkhovna Rada is to schedule presidential election in a month. The election process is to last 90 days. However, Didenko believes that a month will not be enough.

"Is this month enough to prepare for the elections? If we are talking about a vote that will be democratic and meet standards, then probably not. Everyone understands this," he said.

When asked how much time will be needed to prepare for the start of the election campaign, Didenko did not answer.

"I never name a specific date: the more time there is, the better the electoral process can be organized, the less time - the worse, respectively," he said.

Recall, Zelenskyy convened a meeting to instruct his team to organize elections after a complete ceasefire, which, according to the Americans, they can implement by the end of April.
