If the Special Envoy of the US President Donald Trump for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, spoke about elections in Ukraine during the war, this is promoting putin's interests.
Member of Parliament from the Servant of the People faction, the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko, has said this to the Ukrainian News agency.
The MP explained that it is not clear what kind of elections in Ukraine Witkoff was talking about: during martial law or post-war.
Merezhko emphasized that in the case of post-war elections, this is true and they will take place.
"However, if he meant elections during martial law, then this is excluded and this is promoting Putin's interests, since only Putin is interested in holding elections during the war in order to weaken Ukraine," he is convinced.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Donald Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that elections in Ukraine are necessary, and Ukraine has already agreed to hold them.
Recall that Politico, citing its own sources, reported on negotiations between members of Donald Trump's team and Zelenskyy's political opponents. The publication claimed that the parties allegedly discussed elections after a temporary cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, on a second attempt, adopted its statement on the impossibility of holding elections during the war.
