US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said that russian dictator vladimir putin "accepts the philosophy" of US President Donald Trump, so a ceasefire could come within weeks.
Witkoff spoke about this on CNN on Sunday, March 16.
The Special Envoy noted that a phone conversation between Trump and putin is due to take place next week. According to him, discussions on a ceasefire in Ukraine have "intensified".
"I think the two presidents will have a really good and positive discussion this week. I expect a ceasefire agreement to be reached within a few weeks," Witkoff said.
Trump's Special Envoy called his conversation with putin "a discussion based on finding solutions." He declined to explain in detail putin's terms for a ceasefire, but acknowledged that russian-occupied regions in Ukraine would be part of the discussions on ending the war. Witkoff said the russian leader "accepts President Trump's philosophy" about wanting to end the war, and said a pause in hostilities could come within weeks.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 13, putin said that russia had allegedly agreed to a ceasefire under a number of conditions.
On March 14, US President Donald Trump said that russian dictator vladimir putin was willing to accept a temporary ceasefire proposal.
According to media reports, US President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin could meet between late April and early June.
