The US is ready to resume deliveries of long-range bombs known as Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bombs (GLSDB) to Ukraine after modernization, which will help to better counteract russian countermeasure systems.
Reuters reported this was on Thursday, March 13, citing two people familiar with the matter.
According to the publication, in recent weeks, specialists have been testing GLSDB to assess the effectiveness of the upgrades. Thanks to the improvements made, it was possible to strengthen their resistance. A batch of long-range bombs is already in Europe, so the transfer may take place in the coming days. One of the interlocutors told Reuters that the last time the Ukrainians used this weapon was several months ago.
GLSDB is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 161 km. The modernization has improved the resistance of navigation systems, which were previously affected by russian electronic warfare systems.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 13, the Associated Press reported that Ukraine no longer has the Army Tactical Long-Range Missile Systems (ATACMS), which were previously transferred by the American side.
Recall, in November 2022, Boeing offered to produce GLSDB long-range bombs for Ukraine from components available in stock.
In October 2023, Boeing and Saab announced that they were on the final path to supplying Ukraine with GLSDB long-range bombs.
In November 2023, it became known that the supply of GLSDB long-range bombs to Ukraine had been postponed to early 2024.
