Moscow sees ceasefire proposal as 'trap' - Reuters

Moscow sees the ceasefire proposal as a trap, as it would be difficult for russian dictator vladimir putin to stop the war without concrete guarantees or promises, Reuters reported on Wednesday, March 12, citing senior russian sources.

One of the sources told Reuters that putin would find it difficult to agree to a ceasefire without agreeing on terms and receiving certain guarantees, as the russian army is currently advancing. Without guarantees alongside a ceasefire, russia's position could quickly weaken, and the West could accuse russia of not ending the war, they added.

"So yes, we are all for a ceasefire, but we need at least framework guarantees, and at least from the United States," the report said.

Another senior russian source said that the ceasefire proposal looks like a trap for Moscow, as it will be difficult for putin to stop the war without concrete guarantees or promises. According to another source, the US has resumed military aid and intelligence sharing, simply dressing this step up with a ceasefire proposal.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 11, following talks in Saudi Arabia, the US decided to resume intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine.

On March 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine accepts the US proposal to establish a complete ceasefire, not only regarding missiles, drones and bombs, not only in the Black Sea, but also along the entire front line.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US "will have contact with the russians" today, March 12.
